Essential Management Skills & Introduction to PRISM® Personal Performance Mapping
Two Days
Course Objective:
To introduce participants to the complex issues involved in management. The course aims to make the transition from staff member to manager as smooth as possible. It covers all the essential elements of management from which an inexperienced manager can develop their skills.

The training is further enhanced by the use of PRISM® Personal Performance Mapping which gives each participant an accurate picture of the behaviour they will tend to display in response to certain situations and other people - an understanding of which is fundamental to successful management.

By the end of the course participants will be able to:
  • Identify their responsibilities as managers
  • Recognise and apply a range of leadership styles
  • Design individual strategies for motivation
  • Understand how a team develops
  • Resolve any potential conflict
  • Understand when and how to discipline individuals
  • Train and coach their teams more effectively

Day One:

  • The role of the manager - What are your responsibilities?
  • Examination of leadership styles - Slave driver or Moses?
  • The activities of a manager - The practical aspects
  • Motivation - The theory and the practice
  • Team development - Understanding how your team changes
  • Supervising your team - Examination of some modern techniques
  • Holding effective meetings - Planning and maintaining interest

Day Two:

  • Time Management for managers
  • Decision making - Barriers, preparation and rules
  • Resolving conflict - Analysis of a variety of situations
  • Discipline - When and How?
  • Creativity in Management
  • Techniques for training and coaching
